Measure K & Our Schools Conditions, Impact of CV-10 on Schools, Schools & Community Connections
Oct. 05, 2020 12:15 p.m.
Katherine (Kathy Wright), Superintendent RDUSDHosted by our club member, Bill Schauer, Jr Katherine (Kathy) Wright is the current Superintendent River Delta Unified School District (RDUSD). She is the 5th generation in her family to be raised and received her Preshcool-12th Grade education within the Sacramento Delta. Mrs. Wright lives in Rio Vista with her husband, Steve. They have two children, Nathan and Emma, who are young adults now. Both of their children are currently enrolled at Chico State. Mrs. Wright was hired by RDUSD for her first teaching assignment after earning her BA and a teaching credential from Chico State. She taught at the elementary school level for 13 years. After earning her administrative credential and MA in Educational Leadership from St. Mary's College, she served as a school administrator for 6 years. In 2012, Mrs. Wright was recruited and hired by a federal agency, WestEd, to be a part of a school turnaround team that assessed, created and implemented school improvement plans for the lowest performing schools across our nation. She returned to RDUSD in 2016 to serve as the Director of Educational Services. In 2019 the RDUSD Board of Trustees selected Mrs. Wright to serve as the Superintendent. Although she never imagined facing the challenges of a national pandemic in her first year as Superintendent, she is still as committed as ever to humbly serving the staff, students and their famiies in the most effiective and impactful manner possible. Mrs. Wright is looking forward to speaking to the Rotary Club of Walnut Grove members about the impact Covid-19 has had on our schools, the condition of our school facilities and Meaure K, and the importance of the schools continuing to be well connected with their community-based organizations.

World Polio Day Webinar Clich Me! to Register for the District 5180 Foundation Webinar October 24 th is world polio day. It is important to remember we are not done with this project.Rotary's Legacy in an Effort to Eradicate Polio World Wide - End Polio NowHow all the efforts and hard work to eradicate Polio is now helping Covid-19!
We’re committed to service, and we’re not afraid to dream big and set bold goals. We began our fight against polio in 1979 with a project to immunize 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, polio remains endemic in only three countries—down from 125 in 1988. As recently as July 2020, Nigeria has been certified Polo Free. In August of 2020, End Polio Now announced that only 85 cases remain worldwide. 29 in Afghanistan and 56 in Pakistan. Reaching last year’s commitment means The Gates Foundation then matched donations 2-1, which in turn, the Rotary Foundation matched.
Today, the work continues as Rotary is helping service Covid-19 by using our polio networks that have been established for years.

It is good to know.
So having an account is different from having registered. Question: Is that an account with Auctria.com or is it with our Rotary club.
Yes, good to know.
You told me but I have not yet looked into it.
Hmm, if it is turned on, that means the bidder can later get email from us, it may not be a bad idea when we want to make an email blast.
Thank you for the clear explanation.
I think we should make credit cards mandatory for non members of RC Walnut Grove. Then can we make special concessions for people say like Rusty Areias. Thanks/ Regards Douglas

The Positive Impact Social Media has on the Delta, Delta News, Awesome Photos, Community Spirit
Feb. 01, 2021 12:30 p.m.
This is a Zoom Only Meeting. For Guests: Please contact Douglas to receive your invitation that includes the access code to our Monday Zoom meeting. Katie Wiley, Don Wisdom, & Demi Stewart, Delta News Influencers!Topic:
These three speakers are the heart and sole behind the Facebook Group, Delta News. Don, its creator has captured the hearts of Delta people with his photography and wit. Demi is our beloved bridge operator, unofficial traffic control, and photographer. Katie inspires and markets our little town of Walnut Grove. Many of the photos in our Rotary Auction Catalog belong to these people! I thank them very much for the permission to enhance our catalog.
KATIE WILEY: "Hello, everyone... Katie of K. Wiley Marketing & Design here! I'm an experienced Social Media Marketer, Digital Strategist, Web and Print Designer who has been serving the locally owned businesses of the California Delta for over ten years. If you're on Facebook, you might have seen me helping the restaurants and other venues I work with to spread the word about their specials and accommodations in groups like Delta News and The Hub. With COVID-19 presenting us with new hurdles daily, I have found that social media-- especially local groups like these-- have become vast resources for business owners, residents, and visitors alike. I am absolutely honored to be included in this meeting alongside two of my greatest inspirations. After years of admiring their gorgeous Delta photos on social media, I finally had the courage to pick up a DSLR camera, thanks to the extraordinary talents of Don Wisdom and Demi Stewart. I look forward to discussing how social media has had a positive impact on the California Delta with you soon!" About the Speaker: Don Wisdom: Hi, My name is Don Wisdom. I am the Creator of Delta News, a Facebook group dedicated to promoting small business in the Delta. I grew up as a child in the Delta attending Ryer Island Elementay, Rio Vista High School, Courtland High school and Delta High. I believe Delta News and its "staff writers " are and can be instrumental in keeping small Delta businesses alive especially in our current predicament. I have such great memories from my childhood and working in the Delta as do most people with similar backgrounds. So combining the memories and photos that people can share with each other seems to be an excellent way to grow a group.
So glad you included me in this meeting with two others like Demi and Katie who have similar visions and gifts that make this all work. Thank you.
About the Speaker: Demi Stewart: Hello. My name is Demi Stewart. I’ve lived in the beautiful Delta for the majority of my life and cannot imagine living anywhere else. Spending much of that time in the agricultural field, my attention was primarily on bookkeeping, soils and crops. When I became a Bridge Operator, my perspective changed. The long hours spent over our gorgeous waterways showed me a different view of the rivers, the habitat and the people that make the Delta so unique and valuable. I was introduced to the Delta News, developed by my friend Don Wisdom and was soon sharing pictures from some unique vantage points. Through the support and love and encouragement of its members, family, and friends, I now have my own photography business and hope to continue to share the beauty that I am blessed to see on a regular basis. My hope is that the more we share the Delta Love, the better we can protect it, promote it, and maintain its beauty, the people and businesses who live, love, and play here. |
