Free Education and Training Including Current Employees

This is a Zoom Only Meeting.

Marisa Alcorta, Apprenticeship Program Manager at Center for Land-Based Learning

Hosted by club member, Julie Lancaster, Commercial Insurance

"We hope to provide a service to farmers looking for skilled candidates who have potential to move into managerial roles on their farm. We provide free education and training, and farmers can enroll their current employees to train them as well."

Marisa joined the Center for Land-Based Learning in 2016 to develop the first registered apprenticeship program in agriculture in California. Over the last 5 years, she has laid the groundwork for success, establishing standardized training in the occupation of a Beginning Farm and Ranch Manager. Marisa has grown the program to a team of three, establishing relationships with government agencies, legislators, community colleges, outreach partners, and a diverse set of farm employers across the state. Marisa brings 20 years of experience in the agriculture industry, starting out as an apprentice herself. She has since provided bilingual technical assistance to experienced and beginning farmers and spent many years as an agricultural educator. Marisa has degrees in plant science and agronomy from Cornell and UC Davis. She and her husband are owners of Terra Firma Farm, a 200-acre organic operation growing mixed vegetables, fruits, and nuts in Winters, CA.
