In Memory of Michael McDowell ~
Michael McDowell grew up and was best friends with many of our Rotary Club members. He was close to many of our Delta families. The RCWG extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Donations can be made at any F&M Bank branch location with checks made out to the “Michael McDowell Memorial Fund”.
On Sunday, December 6th, 2020, Michael Edward McDowell unexpectedly passed from this earth at the age of 44. Michael suffered a bee sting on their family pear farm in Walnut Grove and was unable to be revived.
Michael was born in Lodi, CA on May 18, 1976. He was a graduate of Delta High School, San Joaquin Delta College and Cal Poly SLO, and then returned home to continue the family business of growing pears and alfalfa.
Michael lived and breathed California Agriculture. He was a long time Sacramento County Farm Bureau member, first with Young Farmers and Ranchers and later becoming a board member of Sacramento County Farm Bureau. He was part of California Ag Leadership Class 34 and later won the Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award. Michael, like many great agriculturalists, recognized a need to preserve our great land and to diversify. He diversified his generational family pear and alfalfa farm to include a pheasant hunting preserve, egg production operation, u-pick operation, and a specialty tree fruit farm trail destination.
Michael will always be remembered as a quiet, strong family man. He met his wife Amber in the Young Farmers and Ranchers, their love bloomed into a wonderful marriage, blessed by two beautiful and loving children.
Michael is survived in death by his wife, Amber McDowell, children Sierra and Logan, parents Edward and Eileen McDowell, his sister Michelle Copeland (husband Clint), in-laws Mark and Joan Stretars, brother-in-laws Shawn Stretars (wife Andrea) and Todd Stretars, nephews/niece Troy and Zack Copeland and Gwen and Leland Stretars, aunts Linda Munoz and Judy Carlson, and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held in the Spring.
Thank you for your thoughtfulness during the Ventura family`s time of need.
