Rotary International’s President Holger Knaack’s theme for this year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities”.  I can’t think of a better theme for our club for this year. With the challenges of a global pandemic and the economic fallout we are experiencing we are all facing challenges and adjusting to the changes forced upon us.

I am proud to see that our Rotary Club is rising to meet these challenges. We have made the adjustment to online meetings; we are preparing our very first online auction for fund raising and our hard-working members have enhanced our online presence via our website and our Facebook and Instagram postings.  I feel this is a good start.

My goal this year is to stand behind our local schools and assist them and their students with any of their needs. Many of the students in our local schools are the children of the people we employ in our area. I feel that we as a club and as individuals have an obligation to assist these students by helping to provide them with whatever they need to open up the opportunities our great country holds for them.  Furthermore, I want to continue all the programs we have been participating in for many years. Our speech contest, dictionary handouts and scholarship program can continue as always, with slight adjustments of course.

In closing I want to thank all members of our club for their participation during these challenging times.  The current challenges will pass, and new ones will arise. It is important we keep our perspective and remember that we can still do a lot of good in the community during the current and future Rotary Years.

Yours in Rotary Service,
Rob Globus
President 2020-2021
Rotary Club of Walnut Grove.
