Fraternal and Service Clubs in Sacramento and the Delta

A Brief Message Our Rotary Club can Deliver for You:

Starting in mid-October I will conduct interviews and capture personal narratives and oral histories for SRDHS at the resource center at Jean Harvie and hope members will contact me to share their stories.

About the Speaker:

Maryellen Burns is a food and cultural historian who focuses on uncovering the often-hidden stories of the people, places, and happenings unique to Sacramento and the Delta. She is also the author of several books on food and regional history including Lost Restaurants of Sacramento and Their Recipes, The First History of Sacramento City, and A Taste of History.

Maryellen is the incoming president of the Sacramento River Delta Historical Society, regional Vice President for the Conference of California Historical Societies and serves on the program committee for the Book Club of California. Her talk on fraternal organizations and service clubs will cover the dozens of groups that began in the region during the gold rush and continue to this day.
