Topic: Tunnel and Water Update About the Speaker: Dan Waley is our community member staying on top of the delta tunnels and water.
Biography from the Delta Legacy Communities Website (1/7/2026) HOOD - Daniel Whaley A San Francisco native, Dan Whaley received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cal Berkeley in 1978 and graduated from McGeorge School of Law in 1981. Shortly thereafter Dan moved to the Sacramento Delta. By 1986, and while working out of the old Courtland Hardware store, Dan assisted over 300+ farm workers obtain residency status under the federal amnesty program. In 2001, Dan embarked on a new business venture which was a large restoration and development project of the old Stillwater Orchard Industrial property in Hood, known as the River Road Exchange. River Road Exchange first operated as a film studio in its early years, and today is home to the highly successful event venue and family owned Willow Ballroom & Event Center. The property continues as climate controlled storage and is also home to Porta Bella International Design. Owned by Dan’s incredibly talented wife, Donis, Porta Bella is an exquisite interior design business. Living on Sutter Island for over 35 years Dan and Donis have raised two wonderful daughters Angelica and Alexandria. |

Friends of Cosumnes River Preserve

About the Speakers: Jim Allan and Madeline (Maddy) Barton bring complementary backgrounds in public service, land stewardship, and community engagement to their work at the Cosumnes River Preserve. Jim serves a President of the Friends of Cosumnes River Preserve non-profit, drawing on a long career at Solano County's Agricultural Commissioner and Weights and Measures - Sealer, as well as more than two decades of service on the Thornton Fire Department Board. His professional experience and civic leadership reflect a deep commitment to conservation, public safety, and responsible land management. Maddy Barton is the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator for the Cosumnes River Preserve and grew up on the Sacramento - San Joaquin Delta in Clarksburg, where her early involvement in FFA, youth sports, and community programs helped shape her connection to agriculture, land stewardship, and public service. She previously worked for California State Parks providing interpretation and education to off-highway vehicle users and now focuses on building volunteer opportunities, strengthening community partnerships, and expanding access to environmental education at the Preserve. Jim and Maddy will speak on behalf of the Cosumnes River Preserve about who they are, there future goals, and their future engagement with the local community.

Each year the district requires a theme. Committee members serve as judges and timers for the Districts Club's contest that is held in each year in March. Our winner then goes on to compete at the area and district levels. Field Trip to the 1883 Schoolhouse, in Clarksburg. Everythink else will be the same. Order and RSVP lunch as normal and the meeting is 12:30 - 1:30 pm. Location: 36446 Riverview Dr, Clarksburg, CA 95612. If you have any location questions, ask Dan Salazar. Feel free to stay a bit later and enjoy the tour. Our club is going on a FIELD TRIP and guest speaker, Mike Campbell, will be introducing us to the newly renovated 1883 Schoolhouse. Guest Speaker:
Why is this project important? The Schoolhouse project protects, promotes, and enhances the unique cultural, historical, natural resource, and agricultural values of the Clarksburg Region and the Greater Sacramento Delta. The 1883 Schoolhouse is an iconic symbol of the dedication of our early leaders to education and improving the Clarksburg community. The Schoolhouse is Clarksburg’s virtual and interactive scrapbook that will capture, organize and share the history of our community. It is also an important gathering place for meetings and community events

Purchase of the Star Theater in Locke

The Locke PRDA has gone forward with the purchase of the Star Theater in Locke California . The Star Theater was known to have shown silent movies and hosted live acts as well. The town of Locke is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Star Theater known operated in the town of Locke (originally Lockeport) which was founded by Chinese immigrants in 1915 when their enclave in nearby Walnut Grove, south of Sacramento, burned in 1913. |
