Art and Life Navigation

Speaker: Christopher Jernberg. Hosted by James Hogland Topic: Art and Life Navigation Zoom Link Information: For Zoom Guests: Please contact the Club IT committee to receive your invitation that includes the access code to our Monday Zoom meeting. About the Speaker: Christopher Jernberg was born in Sweden in 1971. He was a boy scout, martial artist, illustrator and soldier before moving to America to study and teach art at the Academy of Art University in San Fransicso. He has painted portraits of Mayor Willie Brown and His Majesty The King of Sweden and been awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Board of Supervisors in San Francisco. He has acted in movies and a BBC/Nova series on juman evolution. After becoming a master of fine arts at the age of 25, he noticed that being an artist - or any other pre made role he could think of - did not make him complete. As a response he created the role of navigator, as in life navigator, and began piecing together a system for general life mastery. After 65 years of experience, he will share some of his observations and findings. |

About the Speaker: From the speakers website: Damien Schiff is a senior attorney in Pacific Legal Foundation’s Environment & Natural Resources practice. EPA, which involved two trips to the Supreme Court, in which the Court upheld the right of landowners to challenge Clean Water Act compliance orders issued by the EPA (2012) and limited the Clean Water Act’s reach to relatively permanent waters and their immediately adjoining wetlands (2023). Over the years, Damien has represented hundreds of landowners and property rights advocates to defend their liberties against heavy-handed and unwarranted environmental and land-use regulation. Besides litigation, Damien has written academic articles on a variety of subjects, including the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, greenhouse gas torts, the duty to rescue, and international water law. He has appeared on a variety of television and radio programs and has been quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Harper’s magazine, and The Economist, among other publications. He obtained his law degree magna cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law, and his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Georgetown University. While at USD, he was a research assistant for Professor Bernard Siegan, a leading constitutional theorist and advocate for property rights and economic liberty. Immediately prior to joining PLF, Damien clerked for Judge (and former PLF attorney) Victor Wolski of the United States Court of Federal Claims. Damien credits the mentoring and examples of Professor Siegan and Judge Wolski for his decision to pursue a career in liberty-based public interest litigation. Damien lives in Sacramento with his wife, two young sons, four chickens, and a cat named Princess. In his off hours, he enjoys stamp collecting, Gregorian chant, and martinis—preferably at the same time. Damien is a member of the bar only in the states of California and DC.

Walnut Grove Rotary Scholarships are Directly Funded by Our Annual Auction to Delta High School Seniors for College Scholarships For many years in late Spring, Walnut Grove Rotary’s Scholarship Committee has gathered at Delta High School to interview senior students for college scholarships. Prior to the interviews seniors must submit an application and write an essay describing his/her scholastic achievement, financial need, character, personal desire to better themselves, and any other information they feel makes them a worthy candidate to receive a WG Rotary scholarship. Over the years Walnut Grove Rotary has awarded a great many scholarships to public or private colleges/universities and community colleges, totaling many thousands of dollars to many students who might not otherwise have the means.

Trans-American Cyclist for American Cancer Society
Dec. 08, 2025 12:30 p.m.
Chemo Riders: Jeff is a Rotarian from Michigan, currently pedaling around the county on a multi-year volunteer mission for the American Cancer Society. He is a Trans-American Cyclist for the American Cancer Society. Transportation barriers are the #1 reason patients miss their cancer appointments. This mission is to support getting cancer patients free rides to oncology appointments. Because for many people with cancer, that seemingly simple step is not so simple. They may not have a car or access to public transportation. Or they might not have anyone to rely on for rides when they are too sick to drive or take public transportation. Appointments to the nearest medical facility are often hours away, and they can't take time off work or secure childcare to make that trip several times a week. The American Cancer Society has a program established in the early 80's to help with these tranportation barriers. This program, Road to Recovery, is there to help get patients to the recommended treatments on the recommended schedule - completely free. Since the pandemic, more than half of all the ride requests were rejected last year because there just aren't enough drivers. The drivers are all volunteers. Jeff's RIDE across the county is to bring awareness and recruit volunteers for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. Jeff's message includes HOPE he can find more drivers along the way. Jeff is riding a bicycle across county for chemo. He has bicycled over 8,000 miles, spent hundreds of nights in his tents, repaired dozens of flat tires, ruined three bikes, and thankfully, encountered zero bears so far. |
