The weather report calls for a cool and windy afternoon and be sure to bring your own water.
Thank you everyone for your continued support!

Rio Vista CARE
May 24, 2021 12:30 p.m.
Johanna L Jorgensen, Board of Director, Rio Vista CARE (Attending In Person)Hosted by club member, Matt Brown Topic: Rio Vista CARE, Professional counseling and family support services for local children and families. Rio Vista CARE is a regionally based nonprofit counseling and family resourse center in Rio Vista California. Our clients are children, families, and About the Speaker: Hello, I’m Johanna Brown. I am on the board of directors for Rio Vista CARE, a grass roots mental health clinic and resource center that was started in the small Delta community... to serve the Delta small delta communities up and down the Sacramento River. I have volunteered for C.A.R.E. for about a decade now. My professional background has been in family counseling and mental health. I’ve worked with families from a range of positions: as a Child Welfare Specialist officer for the state of Alaska, a 1:1 behavior counselor for youth and families in Alaska, Solano, and the Bay Area, and most recently, I was the director of Seneca’s Kinship Navigator program helping provide 1:1 case management and teaching educational courses for family members acting like foster parents-taking on a relative’s child & raising them.
I am passionate about empowering families and helping them find the healthy mix in life they need to thrive. Although this gives some background on my work history and ties to Rio Vista C.A.R.E. I am currently empowering and most passionate about just one family these days-our own, staying home with my amazing force of a three year old daughter Hope and my joyful smirking one year old Lee. They keep me thinking about our community’s future and how together we can make it a strong beautiful place to live.

Honor Those Who Died Fighting for the US Armed Forces
May 31, 2021
Memorial Day, May 31, for many Americans, conjures up images of hamburgers, hot dogs, swimming pools, and summertime . But the last Monday in May serves, most importantly, as a time to honor those who died while fighting in the U.S. Armed Forces. It’s a holiday steeped in somber American history and tradition. The day actually began as “Decoration Day,” following the Civil War, when mourners placed flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers. Yes, Memorial Day has also come to signify the “unofficial” start of summer, but let’s remember the heroes who made it all possible.

Passing the Bell
Jun. 28, 2021 6:00 p.m.
Tonight, the Bell is Handed Over to President-Elect, Jan LeRoy - Handle end first! The History of the Rotary Bell begins in 1922 when the U.S. Rotarians organized an attendance contest. The challenge was that the losing clubs would join in giving the winning club a prize. The Rotary Club of New York City was declared the winner and was awarded a bell from a popular patrol boat, which was placed on wood that came from the HMS Victory. Admiral Nelson's vessel at the battle of Trafalgar.
Since then, as on the ships, the bell used in Rotary meetings started to represent order, discipline and the time to guide us through the weekly hour and a half meeting. With its sound, the bell rang at the beginning of the Rotary meeting, at which time people should stand in order to salute the US Flag and the Rotary flag. The bell was sounded once again at the end to adjourn the meeting.
The gavel symbolizes the authority invested in the Rotarian elected to the highest position in Rotary, and through him/her, reminds those present of his/her authority. When presidents transmit their positions to their successors at the end of their mandate, they give the bell their last hit, turning the gavel over to their successors, symbolizing the transfer of authority.

Creating Today's Super Heros
Aug. 09, 2021 12:30 p.m.
Desirée Wilson, District Governor 2021-2022, Rotary District 5180Hosted by club member, President Jan LeRoy Topic: About the Speaker: It’s a new Rotary year and it’s so exciting to see that clubs are starting to meet in-person again! Fundraisers, projects and events are being planned! We are ‘People of Action’ doing amazing things in our communities and across the globe!
As your new District Governor, I’m excited about what the year ahead holds for us and for those we serve. Our new Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta, from the Rotary Club of Calcutta – Mahanagar, India, has chosen his theme for the new year – “Serve to Change Lives.”
President Mehta’s theme sums up what we do in Rotary - we positively impact the lives of people in our own communities and in other countries, most of whom we will never meet. If there is one thing Rotarians are – we are “change agents.”
The District theme for this year is “Creating Today’s Superheroes” to reflect the incredible work done by Rotarians in our district, most often in their spare time. In the midst of family, work and other obligations, Rotarians still find time to help those in need – truly reflecting “Service Above Self.”
As change agents, Rotarians are truly Superheroes. Look at the efforts of local Rotarians in continuing to serve our communities in spite of a pandemic. Past DG Brent Hastey led our District through a tumultuous time and under his leadership our Rotarians didn’t miss a beat – providing much needed food to local families, turning RYE into a fabulous virtual experience and finding new ways to do fundraisers (virtually!) so we could continue to support our communities. These projects and many more were ignited by Rotarians with a passion and commitment to identify problems, find solutions and transform communities while changing lives in the process. All the while, becoming Superheroes who care and inspire others to make our communities better in every way.
But there is still so much need locally and in the world. Rotarian Superheroes are needed now, more than ever, to work together to assist and strengthen our communities and continue to change lives for the better.
