About the Speaker:

Christopher Jernberg was born in Sweden in 1971.  He was a boy scout, martial artist, illustrator and soldier before moving to America to study and teach art at the Academy of Art University in San Fransicso.  He has painted portraits of Mayor Willie Brown and His Majesty The King of Sweden and been awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Board of Supervisors in San Francisco.  He has acted in movies and a BBC/Nova series on juman evolution.  After becoming a master of fine arts at the age of 25, he noticed that being an artist - or any other pre made role he could think of - did not make him complete.  As a response he created the role of navigator, as in life navigator, and began piecing together a system for general life mastery.  After 65 years of experience, he will share some of his observations and findings.

Topic:  TBD

Zoom Link Information:

For Zoom Guests:  Please contact the Club IT committee to receive your invitation that includes the access code to our Monday Zoom meeting.

About the Speaker:

From the speakers website:

Damien Schiff is a senior attorney in Pacific Legal Foundation’s Environment & Natural Resources practice. He primarily litigates cases on the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and commercial fisheries, among other issues. Damien has litigated several high-profile cases, including Sackett v. EPA, which involved two trips to the Supreme Court, in which the Court upheld the right of landowners to challenge Clean Water Act compliance orders issued by the EPA (2012) and limited the Clean Water Act’s reach to relatively permanent waters and their immediately adjoining wetlands (2023).

Over the years, Damien has represented hundreds of landowners and property rights advocates to defend their liberties against heavy-handed and unwarranted environmental and land-use regulation.

Besides litigation, Damien has written academic articles on a variety of subjects, including the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, greenhouse gas torts, the duty to rescue, and international water law. He has appeared on a variety of television and radio programs and has been quoted in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Harper’s magazine, and The Economist, among other publications.

He obtained his law degree magna cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law, and his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Georgetown University. While at USD, he was a research assistant for Professor Bernard Siegan, a leading constitutional theorist and advocate for property rights and economic liberty. Immediately prior to joining PLF, Damien clerked for Judge (and former PLF attorney) Victor Wolski of the United States Court of Federal Claims. Damien credits the mentoring and examples of Professor Siegan and Judge Wolski for his decision to pursue a career in liberty-based public interest litigation.

Damien lives in Sacramento with his wife, two young sons, four chickens, and a cat named Princess. In his off hours, he enjoys stamp collecting, Gregorian chant, and martinis—preferably at the same time.

Damien is a member of the bar only in the states of California and DC.

About the Speaker, Pat Hume:

Excerpts and Information from the Official PatHume.com website:

Pat grew up in Elk Grove and attended Kerr Middle School and Jesuit High School before receiving his BA from San Diego State University. After college, Pat moved back home to Sacramento County to help the family business following his grandfather’s death in 1998.

A native Californian, Pat was born on George Air Force Base in Adelanto, CA. His family lived in Salisbury, England and Fort Walton Beach, Florida until his father, Col. Harlan B. Hume died during active duty in September of 1977.  After the Col.’s death, Pat’s family returned to Elk Grove, where his mother’s side of the family had lived since 1946.

His father served in the US AirForce and died in the line of duty when Pat was still in school.  Pat’s grandfather Harry Hume was city manager in Chico from 1930-1950 and his mother’s family has had a strong presence in Sacramento County for over half a century.  Pat is dedicated to veterans and has been a driving force behind the City’s Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program.

Pat models his sense of character and integrity on his grandfather Jim Guttridge, who served on the EGUSD school board for over two decades and was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove. Decades later, Pat would go on to serve as President of the same club.

Pat and his wife Lisa are active in the community, including the Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimists, Project RIDE, Strauss Festival, EGACT, EGPAC and the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation – where Pat now serves as President. Pat chaired the extremely successful Spotlight Elk Grove and serves as a pro-bono auctioneer for groups like the Food Bank, Chicks in Crisis, and the Teen Center.

Local Commitment. Regional Leadership.
Pat served on the City of Elk Grove Planning Commission from incorporation until he was elected to the City Council in 2006.  He has been overwhelmingly re-elected four times.  His work on regional boards, including Regional Transit, Capital Southeast Connector Joint Powers Authority and LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission) has earned Hume the reputation as one of the area’s leading voices on transit and development.

About the Speaker:

From the District 5180 website:

Greetings!

Rotary District 5180 is a vibrant network of 36 Rotary clubs serving Sacramento and the surrounding areas of Northern California. United by a shared commitment to service, leadership, and fellowship, our clubs bring together neighbors, friends, and community leaders who believe in the power of kindness and take action to create lasting positive change.

Our clubs are the heartbeat of their communities. From supporting food banks and mentoring youth to improving parks, funding scholarships, and advancing literacy, District 5180 Rotarians step up wherever they’re needed most. Every project reflects our belief that when caring people work together, we can make a real difference in the lives of others.

Beyond our neighborhoods, we are part of something even bigger. As members of Rotary International, we help tackle some of the world’s toughest challenges—eradicating polio, providing clean water and sanitation, promoting peace, and strengthening health systems. Through these efforts, District 5180 connects local compassion to global impact.

Whether you’re searching for a way to give back, grow as a leader, or build lifelong friendships, Rotary offers a place where your talents and passion can shine. We invite you to discover how Rotary District 5180 is transforming lives—across the street and around the world.

Trans-American Cyclist for American Cancer Society
Jeff Mobly Trans-American Cyclist for American Cancer Society Dec. 08, 2025 12:30 p.m.

Chemo Riders:

Jeff is a Rotarian from Michigan, currently pedaling around the county on a multi-year volunteer mission for the American Cancer Society.  He is a Trans-American Cyclist for the American Cancer Society.

Transportation barriers are the #1 reason patients miss their cancer appointments.  This mission is to support getting cancer patients free rides to oncology appointments.  Because for many people with cancer, that seemingly simple step is not so simple.  They may not have a car or access to public transportation.  Or they might not have anyone to rely on for rides when they are too sick to drive or take public transportation.  Appointments to the nearest medical facility are often hours away, and they can't take time off work or secure childcare to make that trip several times a week. The American Cancer Society has a program established in the early 80's to help with these tranportation barriers.  This program, Road to Recovery, is there to help get patients to the recommended treatments on the recommended schedule - completely free.

Since the pandemic, more than half of all the ride requests were rejected last year because there just aren't enough drivers.  The drivers are all volunteers.  Jeff's RIDE across the county is to bring awareness and recruit volunteers for the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program. Jeff's message includes HOPE he can find more drivers along the way.

Jeff is riding a bicycle across county for chemo. He has bicycled over 8,000 miles, spent hundreds of nights in his tents, repaired dozens of flat tires, ruined three bikes, and thankfully, encountered zero bears so far.
