Topic: La Belle Nue proprietor Jacylyn Stokes, her family, grapes, and winery!

About the Speaker (from her website):

As a fourth-generation Lodi grape farmer, wine has always been in my blood. I was raised in a vineyard and spent my happiest days playing in the dirt. And who needs Malibu Barbie’s Jeep when you have a Quantum grape harvester to play with?

Going to work with my dad and grandpa, I attempted to learn all there was to know about my family’s business and the industry I knew I would one day enter. I loved my family and my life but, as it does to so many of us small town kids, the world told me to “get out”, “break free” and experience life “out there”. So I did.

In 2008 I moved to Seattle and pursued a Bachelor’s degree at University of Washington before going to work in corporate America. But the work I was told should make me happy only left me wanting more out of life. Finally, I decided that it was time to do the bravest thing I could…be myself. In 2018, I moved to Dijon, Burgundy to pursue my dream education – an MBA in Wine & Spirits.

In the heart of one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions, I began to live the career and life I could never have imagined for myself. I was finally on the right path, my path. I never thought that path would lead me from France back to Lodi. I’ve had people tell me I was crazy for leaving France behind for my family, but in my mind, nothing is crazier than not following your heart.

5th Annual TUF WGF Youth Fire Academy
Laura Uslan and Mikaela Stirling 5th Annual TUF WGF Youth Fire Academy Aug. 05, 2024

Mikayla Stirling and Laura Uslan, Tyler Uslan Foundation (TUF), WGF Youth Fire Academy 2024!

Hosted by club member, Laura Uslan
This is a Hybrid Meeting. Both In-Person and Zoom.  Our guest speakers will be attending LIVE.

Topic:

The 5th Annual Youth Fire Academy hosted by The Tyler Uslan Foundation and the Walnut Grove Fire Department is  another success for their Summer of 2024 Academy.  Established in 2019, TUF successfully added in 2022 a higher age leadership program in concurrence with the Youth Academy.  Congratulations TUF!

Tyler Uslan of the Tyler Uslan Foundation

Big Dreams, Big Goals have been achieved by the loving family and friends of Tyler Uslan.  This heavenly young man continues to have an effect on our community and the youngster of our tomorrow.  The 5th Annual Youth Fire Academy completed another successful 3 days of learning, fun, and celebration.  It is difficult to fully understand the support of our local volunteer WG Firefighters, our TUF volunteers, former academy kids, and a supportive community.  This youth academy brings so much information to our kids while brightening our lives watching the eagerness shown to be a Jr. Fire Fighter.

Thank you to everyone. In loving memory of our Tyler.

(This is not an activity of the River Delta Unified School District or the Rotary Club of Walnut Grove.  River Delta Unified School District and the Rotary Club of Walnut Grove does not accept any liability or responsibility of this activity or program.)

About the Speakers:

You all know Mikayla and her awesome community spirit.  Mikayla was raised in our community and now calls Walnut Grove home.  While currently Mikayla is a Sacramento firefighter, she has dedicated much of her time to the Walnut Grove Volunteer Fire Department and the TUF Youth Fire Academy.  In June, TUF held its 3rd annual Youth Fire Academy for local kids ages 11-14.  Along with the Founders Laura and Tom Uslan, Mikayla is an inspiration to those youths wanting to become firefighters when they grow up.  Just like Tyler Uslan, whom the foundation is in honor of.  Tyler dreamed every day of becoming a firefighter.  It's everything he wanted to be.  Those dreams are alive in the spirit of this academy.  30-35 kids each year experience a 3-day camp learning all about the fire station, firefighters, and how they serve the community.  One can only imagine how many future firefighters there will be because of the TUF.

Laura and Tom Uslan are locals and are Tyler's parents.  Tyler passed way to young and dreamed of being a fire fighter.  The Uslan's are educators.  Laura is the past principal at Delta High School and is the most amazing person in our community, who provides an enormous number of opportunities for our community youth.  This TUF Youth Fire Academy is just one in a million things she does.

We are the luckiest people to have such an incredible and dedicated group of community members who are so wonderful with our youth.  Thank you!
